*Students interested in elementary teaching should take  KIN 3100 , GSC 2120 , and GSC 2120L  to meet the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s definition of “subject matter competent,” a requirement to enter a teaching credential program. KIN 4430  and GSC 1100  will apply towards graduation but will not provide the subject matter knowledge necessary to qualify as subject matter competent for an elementary education teaching credential program. Students who do not complete these courses are responsible for acquiring the missing content to prepare for the credential program, which will not reteach it. Additionally, taking KIN 3100  will make the total units to degree 131 for the ITEP MMSN option and the ITEP ESN option. Taking KIN 4430  for GE Area D4, total units to degree will be 128 for the ITEP MMSN option and the ITEP ESN option.

The California Commission on Teacher Credential (CTC) requires that students have a 2.67 overall GPA or a 2.75 in their last 60 semester units of course work to enter the credential portion of the ITEP option. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all credential coursework to move onto Clinical Practice.
