Admission to the Program

All applicants for the Masters in Engineering Management must file an admission application on line at https://www2.calstate.edu/apply. To receive unconditional admission to the MSEM program applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree in engineering, or engineering technology (Applicants holding engineering technology degrees may be required to take the GRE Test and/or some preparatory courses with no graduate credit) from an ABET-accredited program. In addition, the applicant must have attained a grade point average of at least 3.0 in all undergraduate upper division mathematics, science and engineering courses, and, likewise in all courses attempted with graduate standing. The degree must have been granted within five years prior to the proposed beginning of the graduate program. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required if the degree granted is not within the five-year period. Conditional admission may be granted in very special cases in which the applicant does not satisfy the criteria for unconditional admission, but can demonstrate aptitude for graduate study by submitting test scores of the Graduate Record Examination, letters of recommendation and other relevant documents. Test score required for GRE is a minimum of 306 in the Quantitative and Verbal sections of the exam and must be submitted prior to admission. All applicants from foreign countries are required to take GRE and contact the Office of Admissions at least one year in advance of application so that all required materials may be supplied in time for evaluation. Applicants whose native language is not English, or were not instructed in English at their undergraduate institution must submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) prior to admission.

Graduate Conditionally Classified

A person may be admitted to a graduate degree or credential program in this category if, in the opinion of appropriate campus authority, he/she can remedy deficiencies by additional coursework but otherwise satisfies all other university requirements for admission. All prerequisites must be specified by the admitting department at the time of student admission. Academic departments are responsible for tracking conditionally admitted students and must report their academic progress to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and the Graduate Studies Office via a memo on a term basis. Students admitted conditionally will not be allowed to concurrently register for graduate courses that are required for the completion of their projected graduate or professional program. To comply with both existing federal regulations and CSU system policy, conditionally admitted students’ financial aid is limited to private loans. Once all deficiencies are resolved and unconditional status is granted by Cal Poly Pomona, students may be eligible for federal and state aid. Conditional admission does not guarantee unconditional admission to a program.

Program Requirements

A minimum of 30 semester units of course work is needed. A maximum of 6 semester units at the 4000 level may be accepted for graduate EGR/EMT courses. The program of study includes 24 semester units of EMT major required courses and 3 semester units of EMT electives, and 3 semester units of Independent Study/Thesis with a Report.
