Reading Certificate Added Authorization

The Reading Certificate Added Authorization program offers Multiple and Single Subject credentialed teachers advanced studies in reading. Candidates receive experience and knowledge in reading and literacy research, practice, and assessment through in-class activities, required readings, course assignments, and supervised fieldwork. Candidates may petition to use the added authorization program as the core specialization in the Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction program.

Program Admission Minimum Requirements

1. Three years of successful teaching experience
2. At least a basic or initial credential - Multiple or Single Subject or Education Specialist credential)

Required Core Courses: 13 units

• GED 520 Diagnosis, Assessment and Evaluation of Literacy (4) 
• GED 522/522A Instructional Strategies for Language and Literacy Field Sites (2/2)  (lecture component)
• GED 528 Sociolinguistic and Multicultural Aspects of Language and Literacy Acquisition (4) 
• GED 594/594A Analysis, Development of Language and Literacy Curricula (3/1)  (lecture component)
