LS 2011 - Introduction to Liberal Studies: History, Purposes, and Critique of the Liberal Arts and Sciences (3) Introduction to the history and purposes of liberal arts education as background to the major. Study of major definitions, concepts and principles to develop a clear understanding of the goals of the major, characterized as the Liberal Studies mindset. Introduction to key themes, concepts, and approaches in the humanities, social science, and natural science as building blocks for interdisciplinary learning and thinking as well as introduction to the learning, writing, and speaking expectations in the major. Special attention will be given to reframing a liberal arts education for its application to 21st-century life.
