Nutrition, B.S. - Dietetics Subplan/Option: 120 units

Dietetics Subplan

The Didactic Program in Dietetics is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Students pursuing career goals in the dietetics field qualify for post-baccalaureate supervised practice (dietetic internship), graduate programs, and to take the registration examination for Dietetic Technicians (DTR). The department offers a post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship Program which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. A minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in major courses is required for application to the Cal Poly Pomona Dietetic internship. Upon completion of a dietetic internship, graduates are eligible to take the registration examination to become registered dietitians. Beginning January 1, 2024, eligibility to take the registration examination for registered dietitians will include earning a master’s degree or higher. Student can complete a combined supervised practice and advanced degree or complete the advanced degree before supervised practice. Non-CPP students requesting transcript evaluation to determine needed coursework for completion of didactic dietetic coursework verification statement will be required to pay a fee of $50. CPP students wishing to take the Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) exam will be required to pay a fee of $25 for submission of validated eligibility requirements to the Commission for Dietetic Registration. A culinary science or physiology minor may be included in this career option with a few additional courses. Dietitians are members of the professional health care team and serve as facilitators who translate scientific knowledge into practical applications so that consumers can make informed decisions about their diet.

Dietitians and DTRs are employed in hospitals, outpatient and long-term care facilities, community and government agencies, schools, the private sector, or are self-employed. Administrative dietitians supervise food service in hospitals, extended care facilities, restaurants, colleges, schools, and businesses.

Major Required: 68 units


There will be a requirement for graduation - an assessment activity.

Graduation Requirements: 9 units


American Institutions: 6 units


The CSU requires all students complete coursework in US History, US Government, and California and local Government. At CPP, this is a 2-course requirement: American Institutions Part A - US History and American Institutions Part B - US and California Government. Part A can be satisfied through the completion of coursework both inside and outside of GE, while Part B can be satisfied through the completion of GE Area 4B or by select courses in 4C. If students satisfy these requirements through GE or have satisfied this requirement at a previous institution, Unrestricted Electives may increase by 6 units.

University Writing Requirement (UWR): 3 units


Students must complete a minimum of 3-units of a writing-intensive course or courses with a grade of C or higher. Students are eligible to take their UWR when they have completed 60 semester units. Writing-intensive courses are marked with a “W” in the catalog.

General Education Requirements: 43 units


Students should view their Degree Progress Report (DPR) for information regarding their General Education requirements. Unless specific GE courses are required for their major, please refer to the list of approved courses in the General Education Program in the University Catalog, https://catalog.cpp.edu.
