Mr. Paul Hottinger, Interim Department Chair
The University Library supports student success by providing effective and equitable access to resources, information, and data to students, faculty, and staff in support of the University’s instruction, research, and public service goals; by creating a welcoming and innovative learning environment where information can be explored and assimilated into knowledge; and by responding to the need of the University community to be information literate and lifelong learners. Whether online or in person, the Library serves as the intellectual and cultural “heart” of the campus.
Library faculty and staff work to prepare students not just for academic success, but for informed decision-making in careers and as citizens. Librarians work directly with students through a program of course-integrated library instruction, and with faculty on research assignment design and course preparation.
Library Resources & Services
- The University Library collections reflect the broad range of CPP’s academic programs, offering more than 2.5 million electronic and print resources in a wide range of academic disciplines. The Library’s Collections, Acquisitions, and Resource Discovery Services (CARDS) unit is responsible for acquisition, access, maintenance, and discoverability of all the Library’s print and electronic collections. These collections are accessible within the Library and the Library’s website where users can access the Library’s online catalog and the Library’s A-Z Databases.
- The Library’s website serves as a gateway to all library resources and services. It connects users to print and digital collections, provides real-time information about library spaces and availability, promotes upcoming events and workshops, highlights special collections and exhibits, offers access to research guides and tutorials, and enables users to book study rooms and schedule research consultations. Additional materials are available by request from other university libraries through the Library’s Interllibrary Loan Services.
- CPP students, faculty, and staff may check out and renew material with their Bronco Card which serves as a library card.
- Access to online resources from off-campus is easy. CPP students, faculty, and staff can log into their library account with their Bronco name and password.
- Course Reserves services provides short-term checkout of materials to support many courses, in both electronic and physical format.
- The Repair, Processing, and Items Restoration Lab (REPAIR Lab) is an apprenticeship-style Signature Polytechnic Experience (PolyX) program where students embody CPP’s “become by doing” model. In the REPAIR Lab, students receive hands-on training and mentorship from library staff to support teaching, research, intellectual, and scholarly needs by implementing fiscally responsible, sustainable, and practical techniques that ensure the Library’s physical materials remain usable.
- Special Collections and Archives acquires, preserves, and provides access to Cal Poly Pomona’s rare books and archival collections for current and future research. The unit includes the University Archives, the Southern California Wine Industry Collection, the Pomona Valley Historical Collection, and the W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library, one of the world’s largest public collections of Arabian horse materials. For more information about collections, events, and exhibitions, or to schedule an appointment, visit the Special Collections and Archives website.
