Major Required: 55 units
All major required courses must be passed with a grade of “C-” or better to receive major credit. In order to graduate, the university requires an overall core GPA of 2.0. Students must also complete, within the first 4 semesters as a music major: MU 1040 , MU 1121A , MU 1131A , MU 1201 , and MU 2211A , plus a minimum of 2 primary ensemble units. Subplan/Option Required: 33 units

Performance Ensembles: 4 units
Choose 4 units from assigned Primary Ensemble (Students must be enrolled in a Performance Ensemble while enrolled in Studio). Additional Expertise: 4 units

This curriculum is intended for those who wish to teach music in schools. The Pedagogy (Pre-credential) Option is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as meeting the requirement for Subject Matter Competence in Music. Completing this degree (with a GPA of at least 2.75) satisfies 2 of 7 factors required to earn a single Subject Credential. Students in the CPP Department of Music are required to participate in a primary performing ensemble each semester they are enrolled in studio and performance seminar. In addition to participating in a primary ensemble, students are strongly encouraged to participate in a secondary ensemble to enrich their learning and breadth of repertory. See department for assigned primary ensemble. *Specific primary ensembles are assigned based on student’s primary instrument; see Ensembles list above. Graduation Requirements: 52 units
General Education: 43 units

The CSU requires all students complete coursework in US History, US Government, and California and local government. For more information on satisfying this requirement, consult American Institutions Courses List . If students satisfy these requirements through GE or major coursework, unrestricted electives may increase. University Writing Requirement (UWR): 3 units
Students must complete 3 units of writing-intensive coursework with a grade of C or higher. Students are eligible to take their UWR when they have completed 60 semester units.
