Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering stands among the top engineering colleges in the country for the number of degrees awarded to underrepresented students. Its “learn by doing” philosophy is at the core of the curriculum, enabling students to translate theory into practice from their first year onward.

The college features state-of-the-art laboratories, including the Liquid Rocket Lab, the Digital Engineering Lab, the Small Satellite Lab, and the Automated Manufacturing Lab, which provide real-world experience in propulsion, automation, and product development. Students engage in multidisciplinary team projects, and present their work at the annual Engineering Project Symposium which includes industry and other external participants as evaluators. Cal Poly Pomona’s partnership with  industry partners enhances applied research and internship pipelines through the Office of Student Projects  and Research through Industry Engagement (OSPRIE).

Furthermore, the college plays a leadership role in Cal Poly Pomona’s strategic goals, including its contribution to Graduation Initiative 2025 and polytechnic education through a robust Capstone Design Program and industry-driven senior projects.

Graduates from the College of Engineering are technically proficient, collaborative, and solution-oriented that contribute to their fields on day one after graduation. They are expected to communicate effectively across disciplines, adhere to ethical and safety standards, and apply sustainable practices to engineering problems. Students gain experience in project management, data analysis, and hands-on fabrication. Many complete internships or co-ops with companies such as Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Southern California Edison, and they leave well-prepared for licensure or graduate studies.

With growing emphasis on essential skills including critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and  leadership, students are also encouraged to participate in a growing number of student clubs and competition teams that are working beyond the classroom.
