Faculty research spans pure mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, computational science, and consulting-fueling programs accredited by CAC/ABET. Undergraduates can pursue a B.S. degree in Mathematics with options in Applied Mathematics/Statistics or Pure Mathematics with Secondary Teacher Preparation. Graduate students choose from two separate degrees-MS in Mathematics or MS in Statistics and Applied Mathematics-with flexible thesis or exam culminating experience. The department emphasizes practical problem-solving skills, supporting interdisciplinary education and quantitative analysis for careers in industry, government, education, and research.
Students connect with real-world data and statistics through the Consulting Center for Statistics & Applied Mathematics (CCSAM), regional outreach via California Mathematics Project, and collaborative research in the NSF-funded REU. Honors society chapter Kappa Mu Epsilon recognizes academic excellence. Outreach initiatives include “Gift of Numbers,” where students introduce math through games at local schools.
