History, B.A. - Pre-Credential Subplan/Option: 180 units

Successful completion of History - Pre-Credential subplan meets the subject matter competency requirement for prospective teachers seeking a California Single Subject Credential in Social Sciences. All students seeking a teaching career should immediately see Dr. Judith Anderson, History Department, for guidance.

Required Core Courses for Major: 36 units


Required of all students. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required in core courses in order to receive a degree in the major.

Note(s):


If course(s) is taken to satisfy GE requirements, then student will need to complete additional approved units for “Elective Core.”

Unrestricted Electives: 0-24 units


Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from “Required Support”, “GE”, and “Unrestricted Electives” is at least 104 units.

General Education Requirements: 68 units

Area D. Social Sciences (20 units)

  1. U.S. History, Constitution, and American Ideals
  2. History, Economics, and Political Science
  3. Sociology, Anthropology, Ethnic and Gender Studies
  4. Social Science Synthesis

Area E. Lifelong Understanding and Self-development (4 units)

Other Requirements:


All new majors should contact the department office to learn the name of their advisor.  Continuing Students should see their assigned faculty advisor one or more times per year.

All students seeking a teaching career should immediately see Dr. Judith Anderson, History Department, for guidance.

Students desiring to pursue graduate study should take at least one foreign language for Area C3.
