Subplan/Option Electives: 10 units


Any combination of courses listed below will satisfy the required 10 units. Emphases are listed to provide guidance for helping students to choose courses of interest that best fit your career goals, but there is no requirement for choosing a specific emphasis for fulfilling these units.

Environmental Health Specialist Emphasis: 10 units


Emphasis may lead to a minor in Environmental Health Specialist (35 units) if counting in other FST major required courses fulfilling 16 out of 25 minor-required units and all 10 minor-elective units.

Nutrition Emphasis: 10 units


Emphasis may lead to a minor in Nutrition, if counting in other FST major core courses fulfilling 16 out of 26 minor-required units and all 6 minor-elective units.

Unrestricted Electives: 6 units


Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from Major Required, Subplan/Option Electives, Unrestricted Electives, and Graduation Requirements is at least 120 units.

* Any General Education A2: Writing Communication credit is an acceptable substitution for ENG 1103 .

ENG 1103  may be satisfied with the following stretch sequence, which may increase overall units to degree:

General Education: 43 units


Unless specific GE courses are required for the major, please refer to the list of approved courses in the General Education Program .

American Institutions: 6 units


The CSU requires all students complete coursework in US History, US Government, and California and local government. For more information on satisfying this requirement, consult American Institutions Courses List . If students satisfy these requirements through GE or major coursework, unrestricted electives may increase. 

University Writing Requirement (UWR): 3 units


Students must complete 3 units of writing-intensive coursework with a grade of C or higher. Students are eligible to take their UWR when they have completed 60 semester units.
