This interdisciplinary minor is for anyone who wants a science-focused minor with a teaching and learning emphasis. For those interested in elementary or middle school education, it satisfies the requirements to earn a supplemental authorization to teach science up to 9th grade. The authorization adds on to a multiple subjects teaching credential or a single subject teaching credential in a discipline besides science, like English, mathematics, or social science. The minor must be taken as is (no substitutes) to get approval. Relevant today, the collection of courses prepares CPP students pursuing teaching the opportunity to practice and enact science education through the lenses of diversity, equity, and inclusivity, which is critical given the diversity of learners in California.
The minor also provides any student with more scientific knowledge in either Biology/Chemistry or Physics/Geology emphases, with additional training in education and teaching science that can apply to community or non-profit settings.
