Agriculture, M.S. - Nutrition and Food Science Subplan/Option: 30 units

It shows what is taught and how these outcomes are achieved through the completion of the degree program.

Introduction: The Master’s Program in the College of Agriculture serves a diverse student population pursuing both applied learning and thesis-based degrees in agriculturally related fields. Upon degree completion, students are equipped to address challenges and critical issues that impact and influence their field of specialization. Mentoring, training and resources essential to skill development that promote life-long learning and critical thinking are provided, positioning graduates as leaders in their chosen discipline.

Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Master of Science in Agriculture with the sub-plan/option in Nutrition and Food Science is to prepare students to acquire the skills to pursue careers in industry, clinical, teaching, research, or advanced graduate studies by offering a flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum including principles and applications in Nutrition and Food Science.

Program Goals:

Program Goal #1: Graduates will demonstrate technical competence of Nutrition Science or Food Science disciplines.

Program Goal #2: Graduates will design, analyze, and interpret discipline-related research.

Program Goal #3: Graduates will communicate (orally and written) professionally and with integrity in individual and group settings.

Curriculum:

Subplan/Option Electives: 14 units


Any combination of courses listed below will satisfy the required 14 units. Emphases are listed to provide guidance for helping students to choose courses of interest that best fit your career goals, but there is no requirement for choosing a specific emphasis for fulfilling these units.

Food Science Emphasis Other: 9 units


Emphasis elective courses chosen in consultation with thesis chair and Department Graduate Coordinator. Courses must be 4000-5000 level with one except of a 3000 level course.

There are two courses in the series, where each course will be offered each semester. NTR 5350  may be repeated with a different topic for a total of two times or 4 units.

Culminating Experience: 2 units
