Introduction: The M.S. in Agriculture, Plant Science Option major provides a research-based M.S. degree in a specialized area of Plant Science. Students will have the option to complete a research-based experimental thesis or a non-thesis based project. All students will become knowledgeable about Plant Science research, literature and current technologies. Students and their advisors decide on the course of study through numerous elective and seminar opportunities. Students are required to take six units outside the Plant Science Department.
Mission Statement
The mission of the M.S. in Agriculture, Plant Science Option major at Cal Poly Pomona is to prepare students with a working understanding of research, technology and literature, focusing on a specialized area Plant Science.
Program Goals:
- Provide students with working knowledge of literature research in the Plant Science industry.
- Teach students how to develop a well-developed and competitive research or project proposal through directed coursework and experience.
- Develop students’ ability to think critically and creatively and solve problems that exist in production agriculture and the plant industries through research experience and professional industry contacts.
- Provide in-depth awareness and knowledge of specialized areas of Plant Science through coursework and experience.
- Provide students with a working knowledge of hands-on research as a method of gaining information and solving problems in Plant Science through completion of thesis research or an appropriate project.
