The mission of the John T. Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies is to advance the principles of environmentally sustainable living through education, research, demonstration, and community outreach. The Center uses the term “regenerative” to emphasize the development of systems that restore and revitalize themselves, ensuring a sustainable future.

The Lyle Center embodies an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability education, grounded in Cal Poly Pomona’s polytechnic tradition. Drawing faculty from across the university, the Center promotes hands-on, systems-based learning through its Master of Science degree program and undergraduate minor. The curriculums blend ecological theory with practical design, energy systems, agriculture, environment, and community planning.

Students engage directly with sustainable technologies and practices in their coursework and via faculty-led projects. Field-based experiences, internships, and collaborations with local and international partners enhance applied learning. The Center offers multiple sustainability-focused GE courses and supports student initiatives through workshops, demonstrations, and outreach events. Graduates are prepared to integrate regenerative principles into careers in planning, design, policy, education, and environmental management.
