Our mission is to provide a well-rounded, quality education based on fundamental and applied knowledge in mathematics, basic sciences, and mechanical engineering, enabling graduates of the program to become highly effective contributors and innovative leaders in industry and academia.

The Mechanical Engineering Department offers an ABET‑accredited Bachelor of Science degree grounded in Cal Poly Pomona’s “learn by doing” philosophy. Students gain foundational knowledge in mechanics, thermofluids, instrumentation, energy systems, and control theory, then apply theory through hands‑on labs, design projects, and technical electives. The curriculum is designed to foster ethical decision‑making, environmental awareness, communication skills, and lifelong learning-preparing graduates to adapt and excel as engineers in a rapidly changing world. Moreover, faculty maintain active engagement in professional engineering societies, ensuring that coursework remains current and industry‑relevant.

Students engage with cutting‑edge equipment and software-exploring energy systems, fluid machinery, and materials testing-while hands‑on labs reinforce technical competence. The senior capstone project culminates their design-based training, fostering teamwork and problem-solving under realistic conditions. Co-curricular involvement flourishes through ASME, SAE, ASHRAE, and honors society Pi Tau Sigma, offering professional networking, technical events, and competitions. Together with structured advising, internship support, and strong industry connections, students are well-equipped for careers in sectors like automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, and consulting-or for advanced graduate study.
