The mission of the Aerospace Engineering Program is to provide education through hands-on application of theory to produce workforce-ready graduates for a diverse society. Graduates contribute immediately, effectively, and ethically to the development of aerospace products and possess the educational foundations for career growth in industry and academia, with innovation and leadership. The department’s vision is to be a leader in producing nationally recognized aerospace engineers who contribute to national defense, space exploration, commercial aerospace, and academia through a learn-do-become educational model.
The department upholds Cal Poly Pomona’s polytechnic identity through a rigorous curriculum integrating aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, flight mechanics, controls, and systems engineering. Faculty engage students through applied learning rooted in strong industry connections and the use of professional tools such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, NASTRAN, and Fluent. Access to specialized aerospace laboratories, simulation environments, and research-focused activities reinforces a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and ethical responsibility.
Students benefit from hands-on labs beginning in the first year, advancing to complex capstone projects in Aeronautics or Astronautics. Engagement in professional organizations, undergraduate research, internships, and field testing of aerospace systems provides practical experience and networking opportunities. These experiences prepare graduates to enter the aerospace workforce ready to contribute on day one.
