We empower transformative educators who advocate for justice and equity for all learners.
The Department of Education at Cal Poly Pomona cultivates a polytechnic, socially just teaching culture rooted in collaborative, evidence-based practice. Faculty guide candidates through critical inquiry, pedagogical innovation, and reflective teaching grounded in partnerships with K-12 and community-based schools. The curriculum spans from preliminary to advanced credentials-such as single- and multiple-subject, special education, and bilingual authorizations-and culminates in M.A. programs emphasizing culturally responsive leadership. This integrated approach leverages strong faculty adoption of practices such as student-centered learning and the teacher-as-scholar approach, reinforcing academic excellence and equity.
Students engage in immersive clinical practice and internships across public and private PK-12 settings, supported by the Clinical Practice Placement Services in the Credential Services Office. Cohort models and peer mentoring ensure shared learning and professional resilience. Additional resources include orientation sessions, dedicated advising, and robust support structures that guide candidates through credential milestones such as CalTPA and Single Subject Authorization. Field-based experiences and applied research projects foster agency, critical reflection, and leadership. Upon completion, graduates emerge as reflective, equity-minded, and classroom-ready educators committed to effecting positive transformations in diverse school communities.
