The Technology and Operations Management Department aims to provide students with an education that will enable them to become successful managers in the business world of the 21st century. Through its curriculum, the department concentrates on helping students develop competencies in critical thinking, technical and business integration skills… Heavy emphasis is placed on the study of computer applications for assisting managers plan, analyze information, make decisions, and communicate.

The department reflects Cal Poly Pomona’s polytechnic ethos by weaving technology, analytics, and operational strategy into its core. Students learn supply chain management, operations improvement, e-business, and process efficiency using collaborative projects, ERP systems, and data-driven decision-making tools. Faculty, engaged in applied research and industry consulting, infuse coursework with best practices from regional manufacturing, logistics, and tech sectors. There’s a strong emphasis on systems thinking, innovation, and responsiveness to global commerce demands.

Students benefit from specialized labs featuring supply chain simulation software and e-business platforms, equipping them to navigate complex digital ecosystems. Real-world learning is further supported by the SCOT Lab, internship placements, and senior capstone experiences with companies across the U.S. Clubs like TOM and e-Business Associations host workshops, competitions, and speaker series. Career networks and corporate mentorships help students transition into roles in operations management, supply chain design, technology consulting, digital retail, and analytics, making them workforce-ready from day one.
