The faculty of the Management and Human Resources Department at Cal Poly Pomona prepares students to become effective professionals by employing the ‘learn by doing’ philosophy and the ‘teacher‑scholar’ model. Through discipline‑based knowledge, we develop our students’ skills in management, human resources, and entrepreneurship. Our aim is to graduate students who are productive and responsible citizens.

The department reflects Cal Poly Pomona’s polytechnic culture, emphasizing experiential learning, teamwork, and practical skill development. Students select specializations in management and leadership, human resources management (aligned with SHRM standards), or entrepreneurship. Faculty are actively engaged in research, creative scholarship, and consulting, bolstering a culture of academic inquiry and industry relevance. The department also fosters a reputation for bridging theory and practice, aiming to prepare diverse graduates to thrive in collaborative and dynamic organizational landscapes.

Students experience robust co-curricular and professional opportunities. They are required to earn internship credit or complete a senior project, partnering with local or national organizations. Student groups like the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) and Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA) host workshops, networking events, and community outreach. Dedicated advising, including personalized plans for transfer students, ensures academic alignment with career goals. Through hands-on internships, mentorships, entrepreneurial challenges, and HR simulations, students graduate as job-ready professionals equipped for leadership, team collaboration, and organizational impact.
