STS 3760 - A Non-technical Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (3) Cross Listed as: CS 3760 Introduction to core concepts of artificial intelligence for the purpose of understanding artificial intelligence’s social significance. Presentation of core concepts of machine learning from a non-technical perspective, including a series of projects designed to illustrate the capabilities and common problems of supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Explanation of vulnerability to problems, such as algorithmic bias, with significant social harms. This course is primarily designed for Science, Technology, and Society majors in the Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Society Option. The course will also serve as a useful introduction to some of the technical aspects and programming methods of contemporary AI to help understand its strengths and vulnerabilities. All others with interest are welcome.
