PHL 3550 - Artificial Intelligence for Thinking Humans: A History (3)


History and core concepts of artificial intelligence for understanding its social significance. Early rule-based AI and the recent development of data-based processing by machine learning. History of development of AI for object recognition, game design, robotics, and natural language processing. This course is primarily designed for Science, Technology, and Society majors in the Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Society Option. The course will also serve as a useful introduction to some of the core concepts of AI to help understand its potential for social benefit and harm. All others are also welcome.

Prerequisite(s): Junior or senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Only
