PHL 3850 - The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (3) [GE 5D] Examination of ethical issues surrounding the development and implementation of artificial intelligence. Topics include ethical learning, responsibility and automated systems, moral machines, explainable artificial intelligence, algorithmic bias, automation and work, human-robot interaction, machine consciousness, the moral status and rights of robots, and super-intelligence. Case-based exploration of these issues using contemporary examples.
Prerequisite(s): Junior or senior standing; and completion of GE Areas 1 and 2, or Areas A and B4 are recommended. Grading Basis: Graded Only Repeat for Credit: May be taken only once Course Category: Major Course, GE Course
