URP 4040 - Placemaking: Theories, Methods, and Practices (3) What are the physical, social, and cultural factors that contribute to the development of great urban places? This course introduces students to mainstream and critical placemaking theories, methods, and practices. The course will draw from the humanities, including philosophy, history, aesthetics/ critical theory, and literature to ground students’ theoretical understanding of ‘space, ‘place,’ and social belonging. Special attention is paid to the placemaking contributions of historically marginalized people and communities, including communities of color, immigrants, women, and LGBTQIX people.
