Breadth Electives: 12 units
Select four courses below and complete 12 units. The first four breadth electives completed will satisfy this requirement, and any additional breadth electives will count as emphasis electives. Each course may only fulfill one requirement.
Emphases Electives: 12-16 units
Select any four courses from the Emphasis lists below and complete at least 12-16 units. You do NOT need to declare a specific Emphasis and the four courses you select do NOT need to be from the same Emphasis list.

Recommended additional courses for application to specific PhD programs. (Note that Emphases Electives must be taken from the lists above - the courses below are for informational purposes only). Premed students should pursue a minor within the Biological Sciences Department and receive advising from them for entry to medical school – a psychology degree will be insufficient without additional required courses. Students interested in psychiatry must pursue medical training first.
Unrestricted Electives: 16-32 units
Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from “Major Required”, “Major Electives”, “GE”, and “Unrestricted Electives” is at least 120 units.
General Education Requirements: 48 units
Students should view their Degree Progress Report (DPR) for information regarding their General Education requirements. Unless specific GE courses are required for their major, please refer to the list of approved courses in the General Education Program in the University Catalog, https://catalog.cpp.edu. When viewing the catalog, students should select the catalog year associated with the GE requirements listed in their Degree Progress Report.

Graduation Writing Test
The Graduation Writing Test (GWT) is suspended until Fall 2025. Students entering Cal Poly Pomona before Fall 2025 are not required to take the Graduation Writing Test.
