All students in any College of Business Administration subplan, and all other students taking certain business courses, must demonstrate proficiency with specific personal computer software packages. The proficiency must be demonstrated prior to taking any business course with the term “personal computer proficiency” in the prerequisite list. Some business courses identify specific personal computer packages in their prerequisite lists. In these cases, proficiency in the noted packages must be demonstrated prior to taking the course.
1 Personal Computer Proficiency must be demonstrated by satisfying one of the following alternatives: 1) CIS 1010 or 2) an approved college course.

CIS Career Emphases
The Computer Information Systems Department (CIS) has established three career emphases in the major: Application Development, Information Security and Forensics, and Business Intelligence. Any combination of courses listed below will satisfy the required 15 units. Emphases are listed to provide guidance for helping students to choose courses of interest that best fit your career goals, but there is no requirement for choosing a specific emphasis for fulfilling these units. Consultation on emphasis selection is available through the CIS Department Advisor.
Students must have earned a grade of “C” (2.0) or better in CIS 2100 , CIS 2900 , CIS 3050 , and CIS 3252 before registering for any career emphasis course.
Application Development Emphasis: 15 units
Emphasis Recommended: 6 units
Emphasis Other: 9 units

Personal Computer Proficiency Requirement

General Education Requirements: 48 units
Students should view their Degree Progress Report (DPR) for information regarding their General Education requirements. Unless specific GE courses are required for their major, please refer to the list of approved courses in the General Education Program in the University Catalog, https://catalog.cpp.edu. When viewing the catalog, students should select the catalog year associated with the GE requirements listed in their Degree Progress Report.

Graduation Writing Test
The Graduation Writing Test (GWT) is suspended until Fall 2025. Students entering Cal Poly Pomona before Fall 2025 are not required to take the Graduation Writing Test.
