Mission Statement
The Master’s Program in Agricultural Science will serve the diverse student population of Southern California, the state, and the region that wish to pursue an applied learning or thesis-based degree in an agriculturally-related field. Upon completion of the degree, our students will be well equipped to address challenges and critical issues that affect agriculture in rural and urban areas and be effective advocates for the area of the agriculture industry for which they are most passionate. The department will provide mentoring, training and resources that are essential to develop skills that promote life-long learning and critical thinking that will position our graduates as leaders in their field.
Program Objectives
- To promote awareness to the diversity of the critical issues facing urban and traditional agriculture and the opportunities these challenges offer
- To develop critical thinking skills that promote success in scholarly activity including research and applied learning
- To develop an understanding of the relevancy of science, technology and education in promoting agricultural sustainability and stewardship of the environment
- To develop the necessary skills to effectively communicate science and agricultural issues to diverse audiences
- Assist students in securing employment in the area of the agriculture industry to which they are the best fit based on their course of study

Subplan/Option Electives: 7 units
- Graduate-level courses to be determined with student’s advisor.
- Courses completed can be outside of the Agricultural Science major and/or the College of Agriculture with academic advisor approval.
