Requirements for All Music Majors
Required of all students. A grade of C or better is required in all core courses. A cumulative GPA in core and required courses must be 2.0 or higher in order to receive a degree in the major. Within the first six quarters of becoming a music major, all students must complete: - The first year of music theory (, , )
- The first year of class piano (, , )
- And a minimum of two ensemble units
Required Core Courses for Major: 34 units
Required Subplan/Option Courses: 45 units
Required Support Courses: 4 units
The following major support course should be used to satisfy the indicated GE requirements. If this course is not used to satisfy GE, the total units to degree may be more than 180 units. Elective Support Courses: 38 units
Select 7 units from the following (3 must be upper division) Beginning/Intermediate Classes:
Completion of Sub-Areas: 31 units
Instructions: - Choose 4 units from each sub-area A, B, and C for a total of 12 units. (12 units)
- Choose an additional 19 units in any combination from areas A, B, or C. Note: 17 units must be upper division in order to satisfy the university requirement of 60 upper division units upon graduation. (19 units)
Unrestricted Electives: 4-8 units
Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from “Required Support”, “GE”, and “Unrestricted Electives” is at least 76 units. General Education Requirements: 68 units
