Successful completion of History - Pre-Credential subplan meets the subject matter competency requirement for prospective teachers seeking a California Single Subject Credential in Social Sciences. Required Core Courses for Major: 36 units
Required of all students. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required in core courses in order to receive a degree in the major. Required Subplan/Option Courses: 40 units
Area Studies Series: 12 units
Select 12 units from list with consent of advisor: American History Series: 8 units
Select 8 units from list with consent of advisor: European History Series: 12 units

If course(s) is taken to satisfy GE requirements, then student will need to complete additional approved units for “Elective Core.”
Required Support Courses: 68 units
Unrestricted Electives: 0-20 units
Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from “Required Support”, “GE”, and “Unrestricted Electives” is at least 104 units.
Other Requirements:
All new majors should contact the department office to learn the name of their advisor. Continuing Students should see their assigned faculty advisor one or more times per year.
All students seeking a teaching career should immediately see Dr. Michael Slaughter, History Department, for guidance.
Students desiring to pursue graduate study should take at least one foreign language for Area C3.

Graduation Writing Test
All persons who receive undergraduate degrees from Cal Poly Pomona must pass the Graduation Writing Test (GWT). The test must be taken by the quarter following completion of 120 units for undergraduates.
