The focus of this production-based program is on the creative integration of graphics, animation, video, audio, text, and interactivity for educational and training settings based on the sound principles of instructional design. Candidates develop theoretical foundations in creating multimedia materials, enhance their technical skills and become involved in creating a variety of innovative interactive multimedia-based learning environments for an array of professional settings.

Prerequisite courses may be waived at the discretion of the program coordinator based on an assessment of equivalent courses or professional experience.

Core Specialization Courses: 24 units

Complementary Elective Courses: 8 units

With the approval of the advisor, a minimum of 3 units is to be selected from the following list:

GED 507/507L - Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning (3/1)
GED 550 - Seminar in Educational Issues (4)
GED 575/575L - Video Production and Digital Video Editing (3/1)
GED 580/580L - Advanced Educational Computer Programming (3/1)
GED 692 - Independent Study (1-6) (Internship in approved activity may be taken for one unit per quarter)

Research Methods (up to 16 units)

Culminating Experience (up to 6 units)

GED 695 - Master’s Degree Project (6) or
GED 696 - Master’s Degree Thesis (6) or
GED 697 - Comprehensive Examination (3) (available for Special Education Subplan/Option only)
