The department serves students of all colleges and schools and develops professional proficiencies to meet the needs of the undergraduate economics majors. A curriculum leading to the master of science degree in economics is also offered in the department. Requirements for this degree may be found in the graduate listings.
The curriculum in economics lends itself to considerable flexibility.
The undergraduate major in economics has two objectives: prepare students for career positions in either the private or public sectors; and provide the background needed to successfully pursue graduate study in economics and other areas such business, finance, data science, public policy, or law.
The minor in economics serves students in other majors by enhancing and extending their academic experience and leveraging material presented in other majors. The minor provides foundations of economic reasoning, and for most students will enhance their career options upon graduation. It will also provide a structure for those seeking basic understanding of economic theory and its application. For others it will facilitate their graduate work.
