The programs emphasize social responsibilities of leading diverse educational organizations and engaging all stakeholders in the commitment to equity and justice for all students.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Educational Leadership Department is to further the development of ethical school leaders who purposefully contribute to the improvement of schools through collaborative leadership. They demonstrate an ongoing commitment to both equity and excellence in their work as reflective, scholar-practitioner leaders who model integrity, the ethic of care, and cultural proficiency.
Core Values guiding the Department include:
All individuals are persons of worth and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
Reciprocal, recursive learning is fostered through experiential learning, dialogue, research, and reflection.
Collaborative, facilitative leadership is beneficial in attaining program improvement.
The study of problems of practice through research and critical analysis of research literature is important as leaders of school improvement.
Context is important in school leadership in understanding needs and assets, but the results achieved by educational organizations are impacted by leaders’ actions, dispositions, knowledge, and skills rather than being defined by the context of a high need setting.
