ME 2141 - Vector Statics and Strength of Materials (3) Two and three dimensional equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies including frames, machines and trusses employing vector algebra. Principles of friction, centroids and centers of gravity, mass and area moments of inertia. Shear and moment diagrams for beams; definitions of stress and strain, Hook’s law and the stress strain diagram. Normal and shearing stresses and strains developed in axial, torsional and flexural loadings; stresses and strains in axial, torsional and flexural loading of composite members. 3 hours lecture/problem-solving.
Prerequisite(s): ME Majors; C or better in GE Area A2; C or better in MAT 1140 or MAT 114; and C- or better in PHY 1510 or PHY 131. Component(s): Lecture Contact Hour(s): 3 hours lecture/problem-solving. Grading Basis: Graded Only Repeat for Credit: May be taken only once
