ARO 5810 - Spacecraft Design (3)


Space vehicle design philosophy and history. Mission planning, including orbital mechanics, trajectory analysis, trade studies and effects on vehicle design and launch vehicle. Conceptual design practices, including mass allocation, structures, interior layout. Systems analysis of propulsion, power, thermal control, data handling, telecommunications, navigation, stability, and control. Cost estimation practices. Requirements review, proposal preparation and writing. Oral and written presentation skills.

Prerequisite(s): ARO Major; Undergraduate or graduate courses in Rocket Propulsion, Aerospace Structures, Orbital Mechanics, and Dynamics and Control.
