IGE 2200 - Encountering Difference: Culture and Power (3) Explores self and other, constructions and representations of ‘otherness’, and negotiating difference through philosophy, literature, art, and media. The course further explores the themes of both cultural collision and cultural exchange introduced in IGE 2100. Topics related to these themes will include colonial encounters; interpretations of the discourse of East vs. West, Old World/New World encounters; crossing borders; structures of power and domination, and notions of resistance, reform and revolution. Inquiries are grounded in both the modern world and the colonial period.
