Processes and pedagogical practices that support the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening for children from birth through age 8. A review of theories of first and second language acquisition including pedagogical practices for children 0 to 8 years. Topics include children’s literature, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, morphology, and syntax. 4 lecture/recitation, fieldwork assignment.
