Survey of dramatic art and production from the inception of theatre to 1640. Western Europe, French, Spanish and English theatre practices discussed. Also, the theatre art and production of ancient Greek, Roman, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cultures are studied. Application of historic principles and styles to contemporary play production and criticism.
