Music, B.A. - Music Industry Studies Subplan/Option: 120 units

Major Required: 47 units


All major required courses must be passed with a grade of “C-” or better to receive major credit. In order to graduate, the university requires an overall core GPA of 2.0. Students must also complete, within the first 4 semesters as a music major: MU 1040 , MU 1121A , MU 1131A , MU 1201 , and MU 2211A , plus a minimum of 2 primary ensemble units. 

Subplan/Option Electives: 21 units


Performance Ensembles: 4 units


Students must enroll in a Performance Ensemble and Performance Seminar each semester they are enrolled in studio.  Students must be enrolled in a Primary Performance Ensemble while enrolled in Studio, and must complete a minimum of 4 units of Performance Ensembles overall. The Primary Ensemble is assigned based on the student’s primary instrument in studio (see instruments below).

Unrestricted Electives: 8 units


Select a sufficient number of courses so that the total from Major Required, Subplan/Option Required, Subplan/Option Electives, Unrestricted Electives, and Graduation Requirements is at least 120 units.

Notes:


Students in the CPP Department of Music are required to participate in a primary performing ensemble each semester they are enrolled in studio and performance seminar. In addition to participating in a primary ensemble, students are strongly encouraged to participate in a secondary ensemble to enrich their learning and breadth of repertory. See department for assigned primary ensemble.

*Students in the Music Industry Subplan/Option choosing to complete the internship are required to complete 200 hours/2 units beyond what is already required in the Subplan/Option Required courses.

Unless specific GE courses are required for the major, please refer to the list of approved courses in the General Education Program .

American Institutions: 6 units


The CSU requires all students complete coursework in US History, US Government, and California and local government. For more information on satisfying this requirement, consult American Institutions Courses List . If students satisfy these requirements through GE or major coursework, unrestricted electives may increase. 

University Writing Requirement (UWR): 3 units


Students must complete 3 units of writing-intensive coursework with a grade of C or higher. Students are eligible to take their UWR when they have completed 60 semester units.
