In order to progress in the major, the department requires students to earn a C- or better in any individual core course. In order to graduate, the university requires an overall core GPA of 2.0. Students must also complete, within the first 4 semesters as a music major: MU 1040 , MU 1121A , MU 1131A , MU 1201 , and MU 1211 , plus a minimum of 2 ensemble units.
This curriculum is intended for those who wish to teach music in schools. The Pedagogy (Pre-credential) Option is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as meeting the requirement for Subject Matter Competence in Music. Completing this degree (with a GPA of at least 2.75) satisfies 2 of 7 factors required to earn a single Subject Credential.

Performance Ensembles: 2 units
Choose 2 additional units from appropriate group to end with correct distribution (Students must be enrolled in a Performance Ensemble while enrolled in Studio). Students must complete a minimum of 2 units in each category. Upper Division Studio: 2 units
Choose 2 units of the same (Students must be enrolled in a Performance Ensemble and Performance Seminar while enrolled in Studio.) General Education Requirements: 48 units

An alternate pattern for partial fulfillment of GE Areas A, C, and D available for students is the Interdisciplinary General Education (IGE) program. How IGE fulfills General Education Requirements: American Institutions: 6 units

All persons who receive undergraduate degrees from Cal Poly Pomona must pass the Graduation Writing Test (GWT). The test must be taken by the semester following completion of 60 units for undergraduates. |
