Graphic Design, B.F.A.: 180 units

The graphic design degree offers students the opportunity to study a range of visual communication problems. Students learn to work creatively in typography, print, identity, illustration, packaging, web design, motion graphics, and environmental graphic design. Support courses in communications, advertising, and marketing are recommended.

The department trains students to keep abreast of changing technology. Due to the department’s unique location, a wide variety of internships in Southern California studios and industries are available for upper division students.

Elective Support Courses: 20-21 units


Approved courses in Fine Art and Art History (9)

Approved electives in Graphic Design. Students are required to take courses/units in studies directly in/or related Graphic Design to meet the B.F.A. requirements. See approved Electives List on-line and in the office (11-12)

All major courses (core and support) must be passed with a greade of “C-” or better.

The total curriculum for the bachelor’s degree must include 60 units of upper division courses.
