ECS 3400 - Language and Literacy in Multilingual Families and Communities (3) Introduces theory and research on language learning in multilingual families and communities. Includes fieldwork examining “funds of knowledge” of diverse children (ages 0-8). An evaluation of theories and conceptual approaches related to the development of first language, bilingualism, and multilingualism. Assesses institutional policies and practices impacting linguistically diverse children’s home language maintenance and school learning, including language preservation and revitalization. Fieldwork activity required.
