GSC 3500 - Natural Disasters (3)


Study of natural disasters and their human impact. Hazards related to plate tectonics and climate are examined from a scientific perspective. Topics may include earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruptions, landslides, flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, and climate change. Recent events and notable case histories reviewed through lecture, Internet, video, field trips, and student presentations. Course fulfills GE synthesis B5.

Prerequisite(s): Upper Division standing; and Lower division GE requirements in Areas A and B.
